With the holiday season upon us, if you haven’t already thought about decorations for your home, you’re running a bit behind. There are a million different ways to decorate your home for the holidays, but your holiday decor shouldn’t stop after you’ve trimmed the tree. Your yard is an important part of your home and should definitely be decked out for the holiday. Here are a few of our favorite ways to decorate your yard for the holidays.
Lights
Often, when you hear the term “Christmas yard decor” you think of a blow up santa that will dominate the exterior of your home and your electricity bill. Luckily, you can leave those expensive and unnecessary ornaments at the store and opt for something considerably less gaudy instead. Lights are the perfect starting point when it comes to decorating your yard and the exterior of your home. You can go understated with a simple string of white lights along the bottom of your roof, or upgrade that to icicle lights. Other great uses for lights are lighting any walk ways, as well as wrapping trees and shrubs in delicate lights. Swap out your porch light with green and red bulbs to be a bit more festive. You can even pick up a few faux luminarias to light the way to your home instead of using traditional lights.
Hanging snowflakes
One of our favorite memories as a child, was carefully cutting out chunky paper snowflakes to tape to the inside of the windows as we waited for real snow to grace the presence of our front yards. While this is still a fun activity to do with children, a more elevated alternative to this is to get hanging snowflakes to hang in windows and anywhere else you want. You can even purchase ones that have LED lights, to add to the lights you’re already planning to put outside.
A wreath for your front door
Nothing says “happy holidays” like welcoming guests into your home with a festive wreath on your front door. You can purchase one, or you can have fun creating your own. The great thing about making your own is that it is entirely customizable, and a lot easier than most people think!
